Before You Get Started
============================================================

1.Introduction ---------------------------------------------

  This product is the printer driver compatible with
  Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP/ Vista / 7 / 8 / 8.1
  (hereafter Windows).
  You can use this printer and printer driver with any
  software application that is compatible with Windows to
  create beautiful printing.


2.Copyright Notices ----------------------------------------

  Microsoft, Windows are registered trademarks of the Microsoft
  Corporation in the United States and other countries.
  Other company names and brands names may be registered
  trademarks or trademarks of their respective companies.


3.Product Contents -----------------------------------------

  This provides the following items:

  - Swiftcolor SCL-4000D printer driver
     Software applications required to operate the Swiftcolor
     SCL-4000D printer with a software application running
     on Windows.
   
  - Installer program (CFSetup.exe)
     Installation program that installs the printer driver on
     your computer.
      
  - Uninstaller program (CFUninst.exe)
     Uninstaller to remove all printer driver related files
     when they are no longer needed.
  
  - Status monitor	
     Displays the status of the printer and the print job.
     Status Monitor tells you when no paper is loaded in the
     printer at startup, or displays other messages from the
     printer if other problems occur.

  - Please read (readme.txt)
     The file you are reading is Readme.txt. This file
     contains important information about the printer driver.
     After installation, select the following item from the
     [Start] menu and display it.
       [All programs]-[Swiftcolor SCL-4000D]-[README]


4.Operating Environment ------------------------------------

  We recommend you use this product on the following systems
  or environment.

  Software

  Windows 8 / 8.1 (x64)
  Windows 7 (x64)
  Windows Vista (x64)
  Windows XP Professional(x64) / Home Edition (x64)

  Hardware

    Computer:
        Computer that guarantees the operation of an OS
        Intel Pentium processor, or any other compatible
        microprocessor

    Memory:
        The amount of memory guaranteed to operate by the OS

    Hard disk:
        Requires capacity of 50 MB (more recommended) at
        installation of printer driver

    Drive:
        CD-ROM Drive

    Interface:
        Supports USB 2.0 High Speed
        Supports Gigabit Ethernet(10/100/1000Mbps)

    Printer Cable:
        USB Cable
        LAN Cable

    Screen Display:
        Display monitor capable of SVGA (800x600) resolution
        or higher

    Printer:
        Swiftcolor SCL-4000D


5.Precautions before Installation --------------------------

  Please read and follow the precautions listed below before
  you install the printer driver.

  - Before you begin, please refer to the Start Guide and
    User's Guide.

  - In order to install the printer driver and perform the
    printer settings, you need access rights to the system.
      For Windows Vista/7/8/8.1
        Log in with Administrator account first.
      For Windows XP
        Log in with a member of the Administrators group
        account first.

  - Before installing the printer driver, shut down all other
    software applications.

  - If there is an older version of the same printer driver
    installed in the system, use the uninstall program to
    remove it. For more details about the uninstall procedures,
    please refer to "8. Deleting the Printer Driver"


6.Installation Procedures ----------------------------------
     
  In order to operate this printer at full capacity, the
  printer driver must be installed in and operated from Windows.
  This printer driver must be installed in Windows.
  The procedures here describe installation of the printer
  driver to use the printer as a local printer.

  1) Confirm that the printer and the computer are not
     connected, then switch the printer on.

    Note:
    If the printer is switched on with the computer
    connected to the printer, the Windows Plug & Play feature
    will execute automatically and display the Found New
    Hardware. If this occurs, click the [Cancel] button.
      For Windows Vista
        [Found New Hardware] screen
      For Windows XP
        [Found New Hardware Wizard] Screen

  2) Open the folder where the installation program resides.

  3) Double click [CFSetup.exe].
     The installation program starts.

  4) Read the [License Agreement], then click [Yes] if you
     agree.

  5) Once again, confirm that the printer is not connected to
     the computer, then click the [Start] button.

     The installer begins to copy the files.

  6) "Switch the printer on, then connect the printer to the
     computer. After the printer is connected, continue with
     the procedure." When this message appears, confirm that
     the main power switch of the printer is switched on then
     connect the USB cable.
          
  7) Click the [Finish] button on the Installation Completion
     screen.

  8) After the installation is finished, a message is displayed
     and prompts you to restart your computer. In order to
     complete the installation correctly, you must restart your
     computer.


7.Warning Messages During Installation ----------------------

  - Some systems, where the printer driver has already been
    installed, may prompt you to uninstall the existing printer
    driver before you install the printer driver. If such a
    message is displayed, click the [Yes] button then uninstall
    the printer driver.

  - For Windows Vista/7/8/8.1
    When the message Windows [Would you like to install this 
    device software?] appears, click [Install] in this case.

  - For Windows XP
    When the message [Windows has not passed Windows Logo Test]
    appears, click [Continue] in this case.


8.Deleting the Printer Driver ------------------------------

  Follow the procedures below to uninstall the printer driver
  once it is no longer needed.

  1. On the desktop, click the [Start] button and select one
     of the following items.
         [All Programs]-[Swiftcolor SCL-4000D]

  2. Click [Printer Driver Uninstall].

  3. When the [Swiftcolor SCL-4000D Printer Uninstall] dialog box is
     displayed, click [Start].

     Note: 
     If the uninstallation does not execute, follow the
     procedures below to delete the unneeded printer driver.

     For Windows 8/8.1
      1) With a mouse move your pointer into the upper-right corner, 
         and then move it down to click the [Settings]-[Control Panel]-
         [Hardware and Sound]-[Devices and Printers].
      2) Select the printer to uninstall, and select [Remove
         device].
      3) Select any printer, and select [Print server
         properties] from the Tool Bar.
      4) Click the [Drivers] tab, and select the printer you
         want to remove from [Installed printer drivers].
      5) Click the [Change Driver Settings] button.
      6) Click [Remove] button
      7) When the [Remove Driver And Package] dialog box is
         displayed, select [Remove driver and dirver package], and
         click the [OK] button.
      8) Click the [Yes] button when the [Print Server
         Properties] dialog box displays.
      9) Click the [Delete] button when the [Remove Driver
         Package] dialog box displays. Click the [OK] button.

     For Windows 7
      1) On the desktop, click the [Start] button and select
         [Devices and Printer].
      2) Select the printer to uninstall, and select [Remove
         Device].
      3) Select any printer, and select [Print Server
         Property] from the Tool Bar.
      4) Click the [Drivers] tab, and select the printer you
         want to remove from [Installed Printer Drivers].
      5) Click the [Change Driver Settings] button.
      6) Click [Delete] button
      7) When the [Delete Driver and Package] dialog box is
         displayed, select [Remove Driver And Package], and
         click the [OK] button.
      8) Click the [Yes] button when the [Printer Server
         Property] dialog box displays.
      9) Click the [Delete] button when the [Remove Driver
         Package] dialog box displays. Click the [OK] button.

     For Windows Vista
      1) On the desktop, click the [Start] button and select
         one of the following items. [Control Panel]-[Hardware
         and Sound]-[Printer]
      2) Select the name of the printer to delete, then select
         [Delete This Printer] from the [File] menu.
      3) Right click the right pain of the [Printer] window,
         point to the [Run as administrator] and select [Server
         Properties].
      4) Click the [Drivers] tab, then select the name of the
         printer driver from the list under [Installed Printer
         Drivers].
      5) Click the [Delete] button.
      6) When the [Remove Driver and Package] dialog box
        appears, select [Remove Driver and Driver Package],
        and click the [OK] button.
      7) Click [Yes] when the [Print Server Property] dialog
         box is displayed.
      8) Click the [Delete] button when the [Delete Driver
         Package] dialog box is displayed. Click the [OK] button.

     For Windows XP
      1) On the desktop, click the [Start] button and select
         one of the following items. [Control Panel]-[Printer
         and Fax]
      2) select the name of the printer to delete, and select
         [Delete] from the [File] menu.
      3) Select [Server Properties] from the [File] menu.
      4) Click the [Drivers] tab, then select the name of 
         the printer driver from the list under [Installed
         Printer Drivers].
      5) Click [Delete], [OK].

Overview of Print Settings
============================================================

1. Opening the Settings Screen -----------------------------

  - Opening from the Software Application
    Normally, you can open the printer driver setting screen
    in a software application by selecting [Printer Settings]
    of [File]-[Page Settings] or the [Properties] of [File]-
    [Print...].

  - Opening Independently
    Follow the procedures below to open the printer driver
    settings screen when you want to set up settings that
    you use frequently as defaults, or when you want to
    execute utility functions when the printer is not
    printing.

    1. On the desktop, click the [Start] button and select
       one of the following items.
         For Windows 8/8.1
           [Settings]charm-[Control Panel]-[Hardware and Sound]-
           [Devices and Printers]
         For Windows 7
           [Devices and Printers]
         For Windows Vista
           [Control Panel]-[Hardware and Sound]-[Printer]
         For Windows XP
           [Control Panel]-[Printer and Fax]
    2. Right click the icon of the printer that you want
       to use and select [Printing Preferences].


2. Restrictions Related to Application Software ----

  - "PageMaker 6.53J" / Adobe Systems Inc.
    When printing PageMaker 6.53 in Windows XP, it may 
    print from an incorrect print position. PageMaker 6.52J
    or PageMaker 7.00 has been confirmed to print normally.
    We recommend you to update the software first.

  - "Photoshop" series / Adobe Systems Inc.
    When printing from the Photoshop series, even if you
    use "Partial Printing" print function, multiple copies
    may print out.

  - "Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint" series / Microsoft
    Corporation In each application, if Pattern is used to
    fill a rectangular object, the printed pattern may not
    be uniform.

  - "Illustrator 10.0.3" / Adobe Systems Inc.
    When printing Illustrator 10.0.3 in Windows XP, in case
    of rotating 90 degrees and printing, the print image may
    print out in an incorrect orientation.
    Illustrator 10 or Illustrator CS has been confirmed to
    print normally. We recommend you to update the software
    first.

  - "Microsoft Publisher 2003" / Microsoft Corporation
    Normal printing is not possible with Publisher 2003.
    Normal printing with Publisher 2007 is confirmed. We
    recommend you to update the software first.


3. Precautions ---------------------------------------------

  When you are using this printer and its printer driver,
  please keep the following restrictions in mind. Be sure to
  read this list before you use the printer and printer driver.

  - Some software applications may not be able to execute the
    exact number of [Copies] selected in the printer driver.
    If this is the case, use the appropriate dialog box of the
    software application to set the number of copies.

  - Portions of the data may not print in areas where there
    are large amounts of gradated areas or overlapped diagrams.
    This could mean that there is not enough space available
    on the hard disk for the temporary storage of data.
    You may be able to solve this problem by increasing the
    amount of available disk space on a drive with Windows.

  - Data may not print correctly if there is not enough virtual
    memory. Select the following item form [System Property],
    and increase the file size for virtual memory.
      For Windows Vista/7/8/8.1
        [Advanced Settings]-[Performance Option]-[Virtual Memory]
      For Windows XP
        [Advanced Settings]-[Performance Option]-[Virtual Memory]

  - Occasionally the print results may not be what you expect
    when printing with the [Print Image After Changing Settings]
    option of the [Color] sheet.

  - About WindowsXP design (StyleXP Function)
    This printer drive supports StyleXP, which is a new function
    of WindowsXP, however sometimes the icon or the ruled line
    may not display in the printer driver settings screen.
